Brewery De Ranke

  • Brewery De Ranke was created in early 1994 as a hobby brewery by Nino Bacelle ( Wevelgem 1958 and brother of Tonino of Bierwinkel), but when Guido Devos from Zwevegem joined in 1997 and a few international prizes are won later on, the adventure truly starts. The turnover grows steadily and slowly but surely De Ranke becomes a reference with beer fans worldwide because of its assertive well hopped beers on the one hand and the sour lambic-inspired beers on the other. In 2005 a complete new brewery is installed in Dottenijs where the production has now reached more than 200,000 L/year, more than half of the production is exported to Sweden, Finland, the Netherlands, England, Italy, the United States and Japan for example.
  • All the produced beers are completely natural without additives or preservatives, have undergone a natural clarification and are not filtered or pasteurised which ensures the taste of the pure raw materials is preserved. All beers are high fermenting and are re-fermented in the bottle so all vitamins and minerals are present in the beer. The use of the best ingredients, mainly real hop bubbles and real fruit for the 'kriek' for example make the tastes so much more refined than the average products of most other producers.
Guldenberg

A triple type named after the Guldenberg abbey in Wevelgem with 8.5 vol.% alc., made from light malt and some sugar-candy for a balanced taste. The hop species used is Hallertau Mittelfruh from Poperinge. Typical for this beer is the perfect balance between sweetness and the bitter aromatic hop taste, obtained by three times hopping, at the start and the end of the cooking but especially by dry hopping the beer during maturing. Dry hopping gives the beer an overwhelming hop aroma. The colour is golden blonde.

XX Bitter

A blonde beer of 6.2 vol.% alc., brewed from light malt and 2 types of hop, the fantastic Brewers Gold for the first hopping and Hallertau aroma hop as finish. The large quantity of hop flowers gives the beer intense bitterness which makes it one of the bitterest beers in Belgium, the selection of the appropriate types of hop ensures the taste is very balanced despite the high bitterness. This beer has already granted the brewery various international distinctions.

Cuvee de Ranke

As a mixed beer of old Flemish brown and real Lambic this beer goes back to an old Belgian tradition of mixing beers to achieve the perfect sweet-sour taste. After maturing in the bottle a few months, or even years sometimes, one of the most complex and unique tasting beers is obtained. The production of these beers is low due to the long and difficult production (just like for kriek). The colour is amber, the alcohol content is 7 vol. % alc.

Kriek de Ranke

A unique beer, because it is a combination of old Flemish brown as brewed traditionally in the region of Roeselare/ Kortrijk/ Oudenaarde mixed with real wood matured Brussels  lambic of the Girardin Brewery. The use of 25% real sour cherries gives it its intense red colour and strong cherry aroma, the long and complete fermentation of the fruit provides its bone dry and unique sherry-like taste.

Père noel

An amber coloured beer made of light malt, Munich and caramel malt which give it its warm colour. The beer has 7 vol. % alc. It has a bitter-sweet taste by the use of the same hop types as for the XX Bitter and a surprising aftertaste by using some liquorice as a finishing touch. It is a seasonal beer that is only brewed from October to December each year.

Noir de Dottignies

A serious hit because of its 9 vol. % alc., with an almost black colour through the use of 6 different malt types, including chocolate malt and the so called Torrifié (burnt malt) and the hopping with the Challenger and Saaz species a beer of unsurpassed warmth and complexity is achieved which will show all colours of the rainbow to your taste buds.

Saison de Dottignies

Saison de Dottignies is a true Hainault Season, a full malt beer with a relatively low alcohol content of 5.5% vol. which preserves the good taste balance. It is a well hopped beer that gets its bitterness from the following species:
Challenger, Brewers Gold, Hallertau and Styrian Goldings. Full-bodied taste but still light to drink and with a clear hop signature of brewery De Ranke.
